Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a regulated, science-based profession that takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, helping to restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability.

At Active Rehabilitation & Fitness, we apply an holistic approach to everything we do – in other words we treat the person, not just the pain. We provide physiotherapy treatment to a wide range of individuals. Whether you’re a professional athlete or a recreational player, a patient with a sudden injury or someone managing a long-term medical condition, we work closely with you to evaluate, restore and maintain your physical function and movement and educate you on the best ways to handle your condition.

As fully accredited physiotherapists, we pride ourselves on providing the highest quality treatment, so you can get back to your highest quality of life as quickly as possible.

Our physio treatment plans include a combination of:

  • Manual Therapy (Mobilizations and/or Manipulation)
  • Modalities (Electrotherapy, Heat, Ice)
  • Individualized exercise programs
  • Acupuncture
  • Work Hardening

Sports-Specific Rehabilitation

Sports-Specific Rehabilitation

It’s no secret that physical activity is good for our overall health and wellbeing. But with any sport comes an increased risk of injury. In the pursuit of high level performance athletes demand more from their bodies which in turn places greater strain on their muscles, joints and bones. And that’s where we come in.

Whatever your age, whatever your ability, we work closely with you, your coaches, training program, or personal goals to get you quickly and safely back in the game and operating at peak performance. What’s more, once you’re back to your sport, we give you the inside track on how to prevent further injury or recurrences.

At Active Rehabilitation & Fitness we specialize in a broad range of sport-specific rehabilitation. However, our principle focus is on injuries sustained in:

  • Hockey
  • Soccer
  • Golf
  • Running
  • Cycling
  • Dance

Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient form of traditional Chinese medicine used to help the body naturally heal itself.

Thin, sterile needles are inserted into specific areas of the body in order to stimulate your nervous system, sending natural healing agents directly to the site of the pain and increasing endorphins – your body’s natural painkiller hormone – in your brain. It’s a safe, painless and effective method of treating a wide variety of medical problems, including acute muscle and joint pain, post-operative pain, and nausea.

Futhermore, studies have shown acupuncture can help accelerate the healing process, improve pain management, enhance recuperative power and immunity, support physical and emotional health, and improve overall function and well-being.

At Active Rehabilitation & Fitness we practice western medical acupuncture, combining traditional Chinese medical philosophies with a modern understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathology in order to help you achieve the maximum benefit from the procedure.

Acupuncture has been shown to be effective when used in conjunction with other therapeutic treatments. Depending on your condition and specific health needs, medical acupuncture may be included as part of your treatment plan.

Post-Injury / Surgery

Post-Injury / Surgery

Picture this: you’ve just had surgery. The procedure went smoothly and you’re feeling good. But now the hard work begins. Fact is, even if your operation was a complete success, full recovery is still a long way off. But don’t worry, we’ve got your back.

At Active Rehabilitation & Fitness we provide you with individualized optimal treatment and exercise programming during your rehabilitation, designed to get you back to your normal self as soon as possible. We believe a major factor in positive outcomes following surgical procedures is good physiotherapy treatment focused on:

  • Restoring optimal mobility
  • Strengthening weakened and disused muscles
  • Compensation for any functional loss
  • Restoring normal movement patterns and habits

No matter whether your problem is the result of injury, illness or simple wear and tear, physical pain can happen to anyone, at anytime, at any age. At Active Rehabilitation & Fitness we pride ourselves on our wide range of effective treatments for people of all ages. Put it this way: if it’s a condition related to joints, muscles, or nerves chances are we treat it.

If you’re unsure whether your problem can be addressed by us, please feel free to get in touch and together we’ll assess your condition to see if we can help.

Some examples of conditions we treat are:

  • Neck and back pain and stiffness
  • Nerve impingement such as sciatica
  • Sports injuries such as ankle or knee sprains, shoulder pain
  • Arthritis
